Marblehead Yacht Club (MYC) and the Shipyard Waterfront are having a book talk on March 15 at 7 p.m. at the club on 4 Cliff St. MYC History Committee Chair John Murray will be presenting a new book from the club.
“After 3 years of research and writing, the MYC History Committee has released its book which uncovers many untold stories about Marblehead and its first yacht club,” a press release from MYC said.
Those who attend will learn about how “Marblehead’s Shipyard and shoemaking industry contributed to the club’s founding,” and more.
“Discover how rowing was more popular than sailing in the 1800s, and how dory sailing contributed to popular one design sailing at the turn of the century, establishing Marblehead as the Sailing Capital of the World. Learn about the 15 rowing, dory, and yacht clubs that once called Marblehead home.”
Registration for the event can be found at marbleheadyc.org/programs. After the book talk, the book will be on sale for $25.
