Greta Sachs was named Northeastern Conference Player of the Year in volleyball. (Nick Grace)

Greta Sachs receives Moynihan honor

December 17, 2025 by For The Weekly News

For her efforts in the classroom and through her athletic endeavors, Marblehead High volleyball superstar Greta Sachs was chosen as the female Moynihan Lumber Student-Athlete of the Month for November.

A four-year starter on the volleyball court, Sachs was chosen as the Northeastern Conference’s Player of the Year and led Marblehead to the league title this fall. Her .412 hitting percentage was second in the state of Massachusetts; her 84 blocks ranked fifth, and she also had 191 kills while being chosen for the Division 2 All-State team.

She’s also an outstanding student, as evidenced by her 4.1 GPA. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society at MHS while earning high honors every quarter during her high school career.

“This recognition allows me to reflect on the fact that all my hard work has paid off, both on the court and in the classroom,” she said. “It was definitely a challenge keeping up with my schoolwork given my busy sports schedule, but I’m proud to say that I’ve stayed true to the standards and goals I set for myself.”

“Beyond proud” of being captain of the most successful team in Marblehead volleyball history (18-4 overall), Sachs is the daughter of Eleanor and Keith Sachs. Her older brother, Charlie, went to Marblehead High (Class of 2024) and now attends Providence College.

English classes, she said, have always been her favorite. She’s also interested in criminology and marketing as potential college majors.

“I love to write, which I think is my strongest academic quality, and I’ve been so lucky to have had such wonderful teachers throughout my academic career so far,” said the Daily Item All-Star.

When not studying or practicing/playing in a game, this three-sport athlete enjoys spending time with friends and family, listening to music, going to the gym, or simply enjoying the moment and appreciating her senior year of high school while making great memories with those she loves.
