School Committee member Meagan Taylor has resigned, marking yet another change in the school district, which has seen significant turnover in the last several weeks.
School Committee Chair Sarah Fox said that she received Taylor’s resignation early Monday morning, with no reason listed. In a statement, the committee thanked her for her service on the committee.
“We thank Ms. Taylor for her years of service and wish her the best in her future endeavors,” the statement read.
Taylor was elected to the School Committee in 2018 and won a second term in 2021. Prior to joining the committee, she had served as co-chair of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council.
Her resignation leaves a vacancy on the committee for the second time in less than two years. In October 2022, former Vice Chair Emily Barron resigned due to a conflict of interest with her professional career. Her term was finished by Tom Mathers, who did not seek reelection.
Under the School Committee’s Unexpired Term Fulfillment Policy, the committee and Select Board have a shared responsibility to fill the vacancy. The School Committee must notify the Select Board of the vacancy within 30 days.
“After one week’s notice has been given by the committee to the selectmen, so that voters of the town may have the opportunity to state their candidacy, the two governing bodies will meet to fill the vacancy by roll call vote,” the policy states.
Last week, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Michelle Cresta announced that she would be resigning, effective in March, to accept the director of finance and operations position at Manchester Essex Regional School District. Interim Superintendent Theresa McGuinness also announced that Director of Student Services Paula Donnelly and Associate Director of Student Services Emily Dean had resigned before informing the School Committee that she did not wish to pursue the permanent superintendent position after the current school year.
Glover School Principal Hope Doran has been on medical leave since December, and Marblehead High School Assistant Principal Dan Richards will be filling the position until her return.
The committee will address the vacancy at its next scheduled meeting on Thursday, Jan. 18.
“Following that meeting, next steps and timelines will be made available to the public,” the statement read.
