U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton made several stops in Marblehead on Tuesday to help distribute resources during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Moulton went to several local businesses in the community in collaboration with Healing Abuse Working for Change (HAWC).
HAWC distributes information related to domestic violence to 450 communities, Moulton making his first stop at the Marblehead Children’s Center.
“I work with a lot of women, whether its employees or parents,” said Gail Arsenault, Director at Marblehead Children’s Center, who added that she has used HAWC as a resource when women have asked what to do in situations of domestic violence — Moulton said that the program was “amazing.”
“There’s a lot of domestic violence in our community, in America, in the world, and a lot of people don’t know where to turn for help,” Moulton said.
Moulton underscored the importance of local businesses he visited, saying that they are well-equipped to help the community in offering of resources — “places that are familiar to people in the community, it means a lot. They’re coming into a place where they already trust the business, and get the help that they need.”
Moulton additionally made stops to Cutting Edge Hair Studio, Studio V Hair, and the Lynch/Van Otterloo YMCA.
Arsenault said that many women are in need of help. “I think we as an agency who supports women, want to be able to give them childcare and support way into the future,” Arsenault said.
