Town of Marblehead Seeking 1 Full-Time Civil Service Lateral Transfer Police Officer
The Town of Marblehead is seeking highly motivated police officers who believe in and have practiced community policing and procedural justice philosophies for a lateral transfer to the department. Applicants must currently be employed as a full-time civil service sworn police officer eligible for transfer under Chapter 31, Section 35, of Massachusetts General Laws and maintain an active certification from the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards (POST) Commission. Applicants must possess strong decision-making, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills. Officers who are already certified police instructors or wish to become instructors are encouraged to apply. They must establish permanent residence within nine months of appointment in a city or town within 10 miles of Marblehead, as outlined in MGL Chapter 41 and Section 99A.
Officers wishing to transfer to MPD will go through an interview process with a small panel. If selected, they will proceed with a background investigation, medical exam, and psychological test. Hired officers will complete a modified Field Training and Evaluation Program based on their experience, knowledge, and abilities.

The current salary range is $57,100–$71,557 based on seven pay steps, plus holiday pay, longevity, a 2% first responder stipend, and an educational incentive stipend ($6,000 for an associate degree, $11,000 for a bachelor’s degree, and $13,500 for a master’s degree). Officers also receive a night differential, clothing allowance, and other benefit stipends based on assignments. The department has ample details and overtime opportunities, and is only one position short of full staffing.

Director of Community Development & Planning
Directs the operations and staff activities of the Office of Planning and Community Development, which is responsible for issues related to planning, land use, economic development, conservation, open space, affordable housing, historic preservation, capital planning, and zoning. Develops comprehensive plans and programs for the utilization of land and physical facilities. Manages and updates the Master Plan and other planning documents. Develops and oversees housing policy and planning for the Town. Provides technical assistance on complex development proposals. Prepares long-range plans, drafts zoning ordinances, and coordinates work with the Town Administrator and other Town departments. Advises elected officials and board and commission members.

Maintenance Craftsman/Mechanic
Under the direction of the Director, using department tools and equipment, carries out maintenance, tune-ups, and repairs to diesel and gasoline-powered equipment. Operates motor equipment requiring Class C license, makes work assignments, maintains discipline, orders supplies and equipment, reviews work of assigned crew.

Assistant Engineer
Coordinates the preparation of engineering plans and specifications. Monitors the progress of construction in public ways and documents the improvements on Town approved software. Assist with MS4 Permit requirements. Supervise various DPW Projects. Shall be available for all emergency response operations.
