Living in Beverly during my college years, I would often take study breaks to drive along the scenic coast of Marblehead, marveling at the hypnotic beauty and distinctive history that make this town stand out. Marblehead has always been a place for me to get away and spend time in the calming presence of nature.
I know the place; now I want to get to know the people.
Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Alyssa, and I am the new opinion editor for the Weekly News.
I stumbled into this position somewhat accidentally, and I couldn’t be happier to be here. I graduated from Endicott College last spring and tried out a few career options before landing at Essex Media Group in February. Since graduating, I’ve been a therapeutic mentor to a young adult with schizophrenia and autism, an animal care specialist at a veterinary hospital, a copy editor at EMG, and now, an opinion editor.
Along the way, I’ve always been an artist and a writer.
Admittedly, I’ve had a somewhat difficult time figuring out exactly what I want to do with my life. But I’ve learned something new with each experience, and this time, I think I got it right.
I am passionate about reading, writing, and working with people, which brings me to my next point: I want to hear from you!
Please do not hesitate to reach out with your thoughts, opinions, or concerns about anything happening in Marblehead and beyond. Letters to the editor are always welcomed and encouraged. I want to know what issues you hold close, and perhaps more importantly, why.
My goal is to help your voice be heard in your community and make you feel like your ideas matter, because they do. I am here to listen, to learn, and to connect.
As residents of Marblehead, you have much to offer. I am excited to bring back an outlet for Marbleheaders to share their ideas and perspectives, and I hope that you join me in this enthusiasm.
So, here’s to new beginnings — for Marblehead, for me, and for this page. I can’t wait to hear from you.
