Dancer Mia Chung performs with the North Shore Civic Ballet.

North Shore Civic Ballet holds spring auction

April 26, 2023 by Alexandra Rodriguez

The North Shore Civic Ballet (NSCB), a not-for-profit dance company, will once again hold its annual online spring auction to raise needed funds for scholarships, programs, new choreography, costuming, performances, and educational opportunities for aspiring dancers in the region.

The online auction will be open for bid from Friday, May 26 at 6 p.m. until Friday, June 16. The nonprofit is asking for the public to participate in several ways, and is seeking donations of gift cards and gift certificates for services and products.

“We are very excited about this year’s auction. Spring is here! People can now go out and about and take advantage of our great offerings,” said NSCB Artistic Director Paula K. Shiff. “With the support of our donors and bidders, we can provide more educational and performing opportunities for the next generation of dancers.”

Individuals and businesses are welcome to contribute vouchers or gift cards for lodging, car detailing, restaurants, spas, massages, photographic services, shops, craft items, and luxury services among other items.

Further suggestions include tickets for sporting events, concerts, performances, cinemas, museums, and other unique experiences.

So far, some of the items donated come from the local North Shore area, as well as Cape Cod, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Items include hotel and resort stays at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, Bayside Resort in Cape Cod, Maine Forest Yurts, and Cozy Pond Camping Resort in New Hampshire.

Unique experiences will also be included in the auction such as the Massachusetts Bay Lines Sunset Cruise, Champlain Valley Fair, and the Newport Mansions to name a few.

According to a press release submitted by the nonprofit, the buyer and the donor benefit from the contribution of an item at auction. There will be a great deal of exposure for retail establishments. For instance, the display of their work on auction sites is beneficial for artists who produce jewelry and other wearable art.

Professional photographs and displays will be available on the website for all items for sale. Services and gift cards will be generously described.

NSCB is also asking for volunteers to help during the auction with gift card collection and flier design and distribution.

Those interested in volunteering can contact NSCB at 781-631-6262 or by email at msb@havetodance.com.
