The Police Department arrested one person Tuesday afternoon after a high-speed car chase through town.
In an email to The Weekly News, Police Chief Dennis King said that Tyler Quigley, 19, of Marblehead, was arrested in another residence after allegedly fleeing his own residence and driving recklessly through the town.
“The responding officers kept their distance from the vehicle and speeds reasonable in an attempt to follow and monitor it and ultimately come up with a plan to stop it,” King wrote. “The officer in charge has to evaluate the risk to the public’s safety when engaging in a vehicle pursuit.”
Quigley was charged with six counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle), one count of driving to endanger/negligent operation of a motor vehicle, one count of speeding, one count of a marked-lane violation, one count of a disorderly persons offense, two counts of hit and run with property damage, one count of malicious destruction, one count of intimidation of a witness, and one count of failure to stop for police officers, King wrote.
At 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a disturbance call at a residence, according to a statement from the department.
“Prior to our arrival, the individual causing the disturbance had fled in a vehicle,” a statement released by the department reads. “Within minutes, several responding officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the operator refused to stop, driving at high speeds throughout the town and neighboring jurisdictions.”
The statement said that it took approximately 30 minutes to apprehend the driver.
“The individual was taken into custody and will face a number of to-be-determined criminal charges,” the statement reads.
King said the investigation is ongoing.
