Police Chief Dennis King announced at the Taskforce against Discrimination meeting that arrests have been made regarding the slap tag incidents that occurred in June.
King said there have been slap tags placed on a sign at the Jewish Community Center and a sign by the path going up to the high school.
Slap tags are a form of graffiti and vandalism placed on public or private property, King said. The tags were anti-sematic in nature, either by having antisemitic language or symbols on them.
The Marblehead Police Department held a meeting amongst the police chiefs across the North Shore in order to strategize how to approach these incidents.
King said the department has identified and will be “charging somebody.” He said the police department “feels confident that the person responsible will not be slap tagging anymore.”
According to King, the Marblehead Police Department worked with the Swampscott Police Department during the investigation because they were having similar incidents take place.
“Obviously we’re trying to deter it … It’s exactly how you stop it from getting to other communities, when you share information,” he said.
King said along with working with other departments, he also worked with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
“I felt that it was a positive connection again, because the ADL will share all the information to help with other crimes that are being committed around protests and different things like that,” he said.
He said his department often works with other municipalities during investigations. “We are always trying to figure things out, always trying to connect dots to hold people responsible.”
