Members of the community are celebrating the July 8 referendum vote to reject 3A compliance on Aug. 23, emphasizing their hopes to preserve the character of the town.
This event was organized by resident Sue MacInnis, who said, “This isn’t just about a vote — it’s about preserving the soul of Marblehead.”
She added, “It’s about resisting one-size-fits-all mandates and celebrating local control, historic charm, and our unique coastal character.”
The group is hosting a “People’s Party” on Aug. 23 from 6-9 p.m. at the function hall at the Gerry 5 VFA. MacInnis said there is no schedule or any planned speakers. There is also no cover charge, and people can drop in for any amount of time.
“Thanks to engaged citizens like you, we voted NO on the State’s 3A MBTA Communities Zoning Act compliance mandate, and sent a clear message: Marblehead matters, and we choose our own path,” she said.
“We spoke. We stood together. We were heard.”
The event will also feature live music by The Melody Makers. MacInnis said that there is room for dancing. The event will also have snacks as well as cake.
MacInnis said the group hopes to catch up with neighbors, friends, and colleagues before the summer ends.
“People can decompress a bit after a busy first half of 2025, and a sometimes contentious local election season,” she added. “Comraderie is the goal.”
