On Sunday at noon the Rotary Club of Marblehead will hold its first Rotary 5K. The race begins at the Boston Yacht Club, One Front Street. Runners will run through Old Town and then finish back up at the BYC with a hot dog and chowder.
“Spirit Runners” can buy a T-shirt to help support Rotary without taking part in the race. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female winners and T-shirts are available for the first 150 registrants. Same-day registration, if available, will be $35 for adults and $25 for ages 13 and under.
The 5K will raise money to benefit the mental health and well-being of Marblehead youth.
“Marblehead Rotary 5K promotes fitness as well as charitable giving,” said Public Relations Chairperson Rosie Tan Segil, “We are running to raise awareness and support to benefit the mental health and well-being of Marblehead youth.”
Proceeds will deliver the evidence-based Daily Mindfulness Program created by Inner Explorer, a series of audio-guided practices to our Marblehead Public Schools students. This daily practice cultivates self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and resilience among the students to mitigate the stresses that students encounter in their daily student life.
The Daily Mindfulness Program is used in 7000 schools with the goal of delivering simple and measurable results.
Rotary will also continue to support and award scholarships established through the Don Humphreys’ Veteran’s Memorial 5K race, held in memory of “our dear friend and Rotarian, Don Humphreys.”
