Talk about an offensive explosion. Marblehead’s boys hockey team shot its way past Melrose, 6-0, with five goal-scorers in Saturday’s game at Salem State’s O’Keefe Center.
Kyle Hart scored two goals and dished out an assist. Other scoring Headers were Hogan Sedky, Crew Monaco, Charlie Grenier, and James Caeran, while Avin Rodovsky, James Mackenzie, and London McDonald contributed with helpers.
Leo Burdge registered an 18-save shutout for Marblehead, which visits Medford at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The St. John’s Prep hockey Eagles took on Pope Francis in the Pete Frates Winter Classic Thursday afternoon, escaping in overtime, 1-0, after Jake Vana tucked a breakaway goal two minutes into the sudden death period.
It was The Prep’s second Frates championship in program history, and couldn’t have been done without goalie AJ Farese, who registered back-to-back shutouts.

Jake Vana tucked the empty-netter against BC High, and that was all she wrote after a dominant performance from The Prep, which advanced to the Frates title game. Brendan Powers scored his first career goal, while Cam Umlah potted the other to kick off the scoring.

The St. John’s Prep basketball team cut a 17-point deficit to one point, but fell to Methuen in the Commonwealth Motors Christmas Tournament. Mike Miller of the Eagles won the Ted Boudreau Sixth Player Award, while Quinn Gregoire received the Coaches Award.
