The Marblehead hockey team skated its way to a Fournier Division championship in the Newburyport Bank Classic Tournament on Tuesday, topping Triton to end the regular season with a 12-9-1 record.
In the 2-1 final at Graf Skating Rink in Newburyport, James Caeran and Toby Grenier were on goal-scoring duties – both finding twine in the second period – while Leo Burdge made 24 big saves between the pipes.
Burdge was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. His Headers check in at No. 7 in the MIAA Division 2 power rankings after starting the winter 0-6.
Marblehead defeated Andover, 4-1, to advance to the title game as five Headers dished out assists.

Days earlier on Saturday, offense was aplenty in Marblehead’s monstrous home win against the Beverly Panthers. Avin Rodovsky (2 goals, 3 assists), Kyle Hart (goal, 3 assists) and James Caeran (2 goals, assist) led the attack.
Toby Grenier also found the back of the net, while Hogan Sedky (2 assists), Ben Wales (assist), and Sean Dolan (assist) also got involved offensively.

It took overtime for The Prep to squeak out Saturday’s matinee game, but the job was done in a 4-3 final. Jack Doherty potted the winning goal from Jake Vana in sudden death, while Ethan Goodrich, Johnny Tighe, and Vana tucked the other Eagles’ goals.
TRACK AND FIELD
Marblehead’s girls track and field team secured second place (46 points) in the Division 3 state championship as the 4×400 relay team of Ava Machado, Sadie Halpern, Charlotte Roszell and LeDaisha Williams finished in a remarkable first-place time of 4:06.
Like the Coaches Invite, they ran alone for a majority of the race, winning by five seconds, which – in this race – is a long, long time,” said Marblehead coach Nolan Raimo.
On the boys’ side, Isaac Gross won the state title in the 2-mile (9:30) as Marblehead checked in at No. 10. Alex Hersey finished fourth in hurdles (8.0).
“Isaac continued his incredible senior year,” said Marblehead coach William Herlihy.

It was a tough day for the Lady Headers on Monday, losing to Leominster in 3-0 fashion. Senior Ava Shultz was the standout player, according to head coach Hadley Woodfin.
“She played hard all three periods and fought until the last buzzer,” Woodfin said.
