Marblehead’s boys hockey team (6-1-1), last season’s Division 3 state champion, had its hands full at Salem State on Saturday. The Peabody-Saugus-Swampscott co-op (3-3) put up a fight with Nick Muse scoring in the third period and Dom Pappalardo making 23 saves, but it wasn’t enough. Marblehead goals came from Kyle Hart, Avin Rodovsky, and London McDonald, while Leo Burdge made eight saves.

Earlier in the week, the Headers had their moments, but settled for a 2-2 tie against Hopkinton at New England Sports Center. McDonald ripped both Marblehead goals, while Crew Monaco and Rodovsky dished out assists. Burdge played well between the pipes.

Malden Catholic 0
The up-and-down Eagles upped their record to 3-3 on Saturday, sending shot after shot toward Malden Catholic’s net. Braeden Hurley, JR Goldstein, Christian Coleman (first varsity goal), Brandon Ward, and Sam Croke found the back of the net.

St. John’s Prep 2
Reading’s Jack Filipski slotted the game-winning goal in overtime to silence the St. John’s Prep crowd inside of the Essex Sports Center. The Prep – which scored the game’s first two goals – received goals from Carson Irving and Ryan DeLucia.
WRESTLING
Marblehead-Swampscott went 1-2 in “a tough quad,” according to coach Michael Stamison, whose team faced off against Plymouth South, Bridgewater-Raynham, and host North Attleborough on Saturday. The Black and Blue defeated Plymouth South, 46-34, with wins coming from Jaymes Carey, Eva Goodman (first varsity win), Liam O’Brien, Gary Podstrelov, Clive Connolly, Mason Hinshaw, Colin Hart, and Justin Gonzalez.
“This was a very good measuring-stick day as it shows where we are at against some top teams in our division,” Stamison said. “We will keep this event for next year as it is such a good barometer.”
