Marblehead’s boys lacrosse team protected home turf against the Danvers Falcons, 17-3, Monday. Reece Moore of the Magicians netted six goals and dished out three assists, while teammate Will Sullivan scored twice and delivered four assists. Marc Grazado compiled two goals and two assists, while Owen Dulac scored twice and Tyler Forbes handed out five assists.
Connor Harvey and Tommy Cyr scored a goal apiece for Danvers, while Brady Tersolo had two assists. Falcons’ goalie Aidan Perry made 15 saves.

The Magicians hit the road Monday and came back with a double-digit win against the Falcons. Leading the way for Marblehead was Maddie Forbes, who scored six goals and provided an assist. Kathryn Commoss (3 goals, 2 assists), Gretchen Smith (2 goals), and Emma Ryan (2 goals) all found the back of the net on more than one occasion. In goal, Molly Bullard produced six saves.

It was a good Friday for Swampscott, which not only took down a traditional archrival, but upped its record to 5-0. The Big Blue were led by Avery Laundry (5 goals, assist), Cecelia Tripp (4 goals), Chloe Puzzo (3 goals, 2 assists), Victoria Pierro (3 goals, 2 assists), and Lilah Caplan (10 saves).
Marblehead (2-4) received hat-trick performances from Forbes, Ramona Gillett, and Commoss. Also playing well were Smith, Zoe Dwyer (3 assists), Caitlyn Ryan (goal), and Bullard (11 saves).
“We played hard and are continuing to grow,” said Marblehead Coach Annie Madden. “We’re looking forward to playing Danvers on Monday.”

Forbes, Gillett, and Ryan all scored three times as the Magicians (2-3) took down Tewksbury. Smith, Caitlyn Ryan, Commoss, and Dwyer delivered two-goal games, while Bullard made five saves.
“Great win with many different goal-scorers,” Madden said. “I’m proud of how we are continuing to grow as a team.”

The Magicians took care of business against the Witches Monday evening. It was a “pitching duel” between Salem’s Rocco Ryan and Marblehead’s Carter Sahagian, according to Marblehead Coach Mike Giardi.
The Magicians were aggressive on the bases, which led to three of the four runs. Marblehead led, 3-1, in the top of the seventh before Stef Shepard hit an RBI triple to bring in Grey Leventhal.
Owen Coyne got the save for Marblehead.

The Magicians mercied traditional archrival Swampscott behind three hits from Colt Wales and two apiece from Leventhal and EJ Wyman. Sahagian pitched all five innings and compiled eight strikeouts. Will Brogna and Sam Baran pitched well in relief for Swampscott, while Dylan DiFilippo delivered a two-run single.

Marblehead’s Tessa Francis continued her strong start to the season. Monday, Francis hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Magicians an early lead. Catcher Luka Bornhorst hit a solo home run to increase Marblehead’s lead, while Francis only gave up four hits while striking out 14 to earn the win.

Back-to-back homers by Tessa Andriano (3-for-4, 4 RBI) and Francis (3 RBI) paved the way for the Magicians against the Tanners Friday. Haley Schmitt helped the cause with two hits, while Francis struck out eight for Marblehead.

Despite the doubles teams of Anthony Vizy/Ty Cooper and Austin Bacon/TJ Kelly picking up wins, the Magicians came up empty in singles competition and fell for the first time this spring.
“Anthony and Ty were tough when it counted and breezed through the second set after winning the tight first set,” said Marblehead Coach Elisabeth Foukal. “Our singles players put up good fights and never gave up.”

Marblehead upped its record to 2-0, reeling in the Fishermen in consecutive games. Etan Farfel, Jayden Janock, and Bacon were victorious in singles, while Vizy/Cooper and Kelly/Alex Boehning kept things perfect in doubles.

The Big Blue (3-1) earned bragging rights over traditional rival Marblehead Monday evening. With the match tied, 2-2, it came down to second singles. The match lasted three-and-a-half hours with Swampscott’s Ana Eccles defeating Nina Johnson 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Marblehead won in both first and second doubles. First doubles Lani Gilmore and Reese Friedman won 6-1, 6-1, while second doubles Josie Reers and Caroline Bruett won 6-0, 6-4.
“That was a super competitive high school tennis match. It really could have gone either way – a few points here and there. I was very proud of Nina. She did not give up and played hard for every single point. Also, Callie Gilmore had a close match in third singles. It was her first varsity match and she will continue to get better and better,” said Marblehead Coach Tracy Ackerman. “As usual, I could count on my doubles teams to win their matches. Swampscott has strong singles players, which I’m sure will make them competitive this season.”
