During the offseason, Marblehead boys soccer coach Elmer Magaña said the one opponent he always looks forward to is Gloucester. Magaña’s brother-in-law, Armando Marnoto, is the head coach with the Fishermen and this year, it was Magaña who earned bragging rights with a 1-0 win. Miles Fontela-Tuttle’s strike was the difference, while goalie Rory Zampese recorded his fifth shutout.

With Catholic Memorial making its way to Glatz Field, host St. John’s Prep (10-0-1) took care of business with a one-goal win. In his first start of the season, junior Garrison Murphy scored a hat-trick and forced the opposition into an own goal. Seniors Matt Foley and Jack Quigley, as well as junior Ryan King registered assists.

The Magicians jumped all over Gloucester, netting six goals from five players. Goal-scorers were Callie Gilmore (2; 9 this season), Lucy McDonald, Lani Gilmore, Lucy Church, and Laura Botnaru (first career goal). Defensively, Lily Heller and Hallie Gilmore each made a save.
“Last night was our Senior Night and we saw seniors Lani Gilmore and Laura Botnaru get their first goals of the season. It took us a bit to find our footing, but once we did, we were able to control the play and create some scoring opportunities,” said coach Lisa Wales. “It was a great night honoring our 12 seniors. Credit to the Glocuester keeper, who made some terrific saves. Ashley Mortensen, Lucy McDonald, Sydney Ball, and Ava Machado all had great games.”

Senior Day was a success for St. Mary’s, which took down Marblehead at Gannon Municipal Golf Course to finish the regular season with an 11-6 record. Stephen Nason (34 points), Luke DiLisio (26), and Shea Newhall (25) led the winning effort, while Tyler Forbes (36) was Marblehead’s medalist.

The Prep (11-1) ran its winning streak to 11 matches with a victory against Danvers at Kernwood Country Club. Leading the way were Tripp Hollister (8.5), Seamus O’Holleran (8.5), and Zach Enners (8.5).

After losing the first match of the season, make it 10 wins in a row. St. John’s Prep took care of business at Winchester Country Club, shooting its way to a 41.5-30.5 win on Wednesday. Leading the pack were Hollister, O’Holleran, Brian Loughlin, Dominic Meyers, and Seamus Cullen, who all shot 37.
