Thanks to a 38.5-33.5 win against Danvers at Tedesco Country Club on Tuesday, the strong start continued for the Marblehead golf team, which moved to 6-2. Marty Ryan, Tyler Forbes, Jacob Hershfield, and Max King all went home with victories. James Bickell, Greyson Leventhal, and Will Macrina drew even.

It was a close match between the Eagles and Catholic Memorial, but St. John’s Prep earned its second win of the season on Monday. Seamus O’Holleran scored a team-best 34 (1-under par) to lead the Eagles. Jack Carew and AJ Bodnar both scored 35s in the win.

“We missed our chances, and Beverly scored in a quick counterattack with 10 minutes left,” said Marblehead coach Elmer Magaña.
Injuries plagued Marblehead as two starting defenders were out. Plus, a winger got hurt mid-game.

A scoreless first half was no problem for Marblehead, which tucked three in the second half to escape Peabody with a win. Goal-scorers were Stefan Shepard, David Magen, and Jared Halpern.
“Second half, we came out like a pack of wolves and won almost every ball,” said Marblehead coach Elmer Magaña. “Defense was solid and our mids ate all game long.”
Peabody coach Stan McKeen said his team was “unable to generate much offense,” but credited Jason Decost, Kacper Kowalczyk, and Osama Mishal for strong showings.

After a scoreless half – look no further than a great save from Marblehead’s Hailey Gilmore – the Magicians found the scoreboard in the second half through a goal from Sadie Halpern, assisted by Liv Carlson.
Twenty minutes later, Beverly found its equalizer on a free kick. Lucy McDonald, Courtney Hitscherich, and Halpern were all “strong contributors,” according to head coach Lisa Wales.

The Big Blue bounced back from a loss with a win over traditional archrival Marblehead. Swampscott’s Olivia Quagrello and Chloe Puzzo were pulling strings on the offensive end, tallying two assists apiece.
Quagrello popped up on the scoresheet as well with a goal, as did teammates Sofia Robledo-Puch, Lia Beatrice, and Maisie Russo. Defensively, goalie Lila Caplan did her thing with seven saves.

In set scores of 25-4, 25-9, and 25-6, Marblehead spiked Salem with Greta Sachs (8 kills, 2 blocks, 5 aces) leading the charge. Mari Modryznks (8 kills, 9 aces) played a strong game for Marblehead, which dominated the service line with 25 aces.

Earlier in the week, Marblehead handled Winthrop in three sets of 25-9, 25-13, and 25-23. Sachs led the way offensively with nine kills on 13 swings.
“Greta continues to lead the charge,” said Marblehead coach Killeen Miller.
Lilah Moniz added four kills on eight swings. From the service line, Marblehead dominated most of the game, racking up some big aces. Modrynska and Megan Parkman each had six, while sophomore Erin Wilder added another five.

The Prep (2-0) had its way with Londonderry at Glatz Field, delivering an offensive explosion for the home faithful. Jordan Toribio (2 TD) opened the scoring, and the Eagles flew high from there.
Edwin Castro ran for a touchdown, Chris Vargas connected with Jack Shesterkin for a 43-yard score, and Merrick Barlow also found the endzone through the air. Deacon Robillard completed the scoring late.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Marblehead boys defeated Beverly, 25-31, at the J.C. Phillips Nature Preserve. Nate Assa (16:14) and Will Cerrutti (16:15) finished first and second on the 2.95-mile course. Henrik Adams (16:55) and Will Cruikshank (16:55) finished sixth and seventh, followed by Jacob Szalewicz (17:15) in ninth to seal the victory. Jonah Potach also ran a strong race, finishing 10th in 17:28. The Magicians upped their record to 2-0 on the young season.
On the girls’ side, Marblehead lost, 24-31, but Marri O’Connell snagged first place in 18:47. Jesslyn Roemer and Abbie Goodwin finished sixth and seventh, respectively, to lead the Magicians.
