Hingham Bay Racing is pleased to announce the Rally to the Crown. It is a fun, family-friendly distance race from Marblehead or Hingham to Provincetown, with an optional return race.
The event is to benefit the Center for Coastal Studies, known worldwide for its work in humpback and right whale research, and marine animal rescue programs.
“We are grateful to the Organizing Authority and sponsors for their generosity, and for their dedication to our work,” said Center Executive Director Rich Delaney. “Racing sailors respect the environment, and always go the extra mile to make the oceans safer for whales.”
The innovative time trial format features separate start and finish lines for North Shore and South Shore participants. The scoring will correct for wind, current, and ORR-EZ ratings. There will be two classes: SPIN & JAM, each with divisions for family entries. Boats may start any time after 7 a.m. on July 21. On the return, boats may start any time after 8 a.m. on July 23.
Sponsors include the Provincetown Yacht Club; Landfall Navigation, a leading retailer of equipment to the sailboat racing community; and the Crown and Anchor. The Crown and Anchor is a landmark in Provincetown, and a leader in entertainment and food and beverage offerings.
“We are proud to be a part of the Rally to the Crown,” said Jonathan Hawkins, owner and general manager of the Crown and Anchor. “We would certainly like to see more sailboats around here. Sailing is good for the environment, and good for our little town.”
Other contributors include the Provincetown Inn and the Harbor Hotel, both of which have offered a room rate discount for the event.
“We feel that it’s important to contribute to the Center for Coastal Studies,” said Derek Evans, general manager of the Provincetown Inn. “We support their mission.”
“A family and environment-friendly sailboat race was an easy decision for us, even in the middle of the high season,” said Jacqui Frost, general manager of the Harbor Hotel.
The Provincetown Harbor Master, Don German, Flyers Boats, and the Provincetown Marina are providing important support and logistics for the event. The organizing authority is Hingham Bay Racing.
