At Tuesday’s School Committee Communication Subcommittee meeting, committee member Brian Ota presented a draft of a school committee newsletter, in efforts to improve communication between the school committee and the public.
The newsletter begins with the school’s mission statement from their website, reminding the community of the school’s charter. In the draft, Ota outlines the three key topics the committee will be addressing during the month of October, including a recent workshop with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC).
Ota plans to include a group photo that was taken at the end of the event, in addition to a brief description summarizing what the workshop covered and its significance for the committee.
Additionally, Ota is preparing a section for the communication subcommittee, where they will detail the discussions and tasks that took place.
“The very last thing we’ll have, as we discussed, was to look at what we did over the month and how we did it against how we planned to do it,” Ota said.
Both Ota and committee member Al Williams expressed interest in having the newsletter be published in the paper once a month.
“We put it on our website, right in one place, but it would be nice to have it in the paper,” said Williams.
Ota envisions the final newsletter to be a couple of pages long, providing a comprehensive overview of the committee’s work. Ota and Williams plan to present the newsletter draft at Thursday’s school committee meeting.
