Marblehead’s spring track team took part in the Division 3 State Relay Championship at Southeastern Regional last Friday. The boys finished third and girls placed fifth, while coach Nolan Raimo couldn’t have been more proud.
“It was a long, long meet with many highlights and PRs (personal records),” he said. “Eighty-eight kids competed for us, which is an awesome mark that we are really proud of.”
The girls 4×1600 team finished seventh overall in 23:59.38.
“Jesslyn Roemer was assigned a big task in starting out the race, but delivered her best performance of the season, splitting a 6:01 and coming so close to getting under the 6-minute Mark,” said coach Will Herlihy. “Maren Potter battled during her second leg and split a 6:20 before handing off to Cat Piper. Cat ran a successful third leg, splitting 6:10, before handing off Marri O’Connell. Marri ended up cruising to a 5:28 split and almost reeled in sixth place.”
Oh, and the boys team of Henrik Adams, Isaac Gross, Nate Assa, and Will Cerrutti smashed the school record (19:53.93) with an 18:02.14.
“All four of these boys deserve so much praise for running such a spectacular race,” Herlihy said.
The same four boys finished first again, this time in the distance medley relay (10:53.15).
“They reunited for round two and messed around – and broke their second school record of the day,” Herlihy said.
Marblehead’s girls finished first in discus with Rachael Albert launching a 112-5 for a huge 7-foot personal record. She tossed a 30-3 in the shot put, too (Division 3 qualifying mark).
As for the 4×100, “Jacob Bobowski, Thomas Carlson, Ryan Corrigan, and Alex Hersey wrote their names into the record books with a fourth-place finish and time of 44.39, which tops the previous best time of 44.55,” according to Raimo.
In the long jump, Sadie Halpern, Philine Heuermann, and Paige Tredwell finished seventh overall with a combined distance of 42-8. Hersey, Carlson, and Corrigan put together a strong combined jump distance of 59-7.
As for the high jump, Tredwell led the way with a 5’ clearance to finish second overall in the competition.
