One of the most renowned American novels will take the form of a musical in June as Marblehead Little Theatre presents the world premiere of “The Great Gatsby: An American Musical.”
This is the first fully-staged version of the show, launched by Fred Anthony Marco (book and lyrics) and Frank Schiro (music) of the Tony Award-winning BMI Musical Theater Writing Workshop.
Marco was short-listed for The American Harmony Prize for his New York City production of “The Family Fiorelli,” and is a National Alliance for Musical Theatre finalist.
Schiro was twice nominated for the Jefferson Award in Chicago and his original musical,“Pryor Rendering,” was voted Musical of the Decade in 2020 by Broadway World Regional Awards. The musical will be directed by acclaimed Boston Stage Director Alexandra Dietrich, recently assistant director at The Huntington Theater.
In a statement, past president of the Marblehead Little Theatre Doug Hill commented on the musical coming to town.
“This an absolutely amazing American musical and deserves to be produced and seen by audiences,” said Hill.
The show will run from June 23 through July 2. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit MLTLive.org. For more information on the musical, go to www.gatsbyamericanmusical.com.
