The long-awaited Mariner: Marblehead finally opened its doors in July after nearly seven years of development. The project to bring the senior-living community to 265 Pleasant St. was a joint effort between the senior-living property developer Northbridge Communities and its three-person Pleasant Street LLC team.
Mariner: Marblehead contains 87 upscale apartments that vary in design and size. Potential residents have three different lifestyle options, consisting of independent living, assisted living, and memory care. Independent living provides active seniors with an autonomous maintenance-free lifestyle, while assisted living provides daily activities to take part in along with personal care and housekeeping. The memory community at the Mariner is known as Avita, and it provides assistance to seniors with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other memory-debilitating illnesses. Avita-specific services include escorts to meals and programming, dressing, grooming, bathing assistance, medication management and reminders, and more.
“Our goal is simple — to make a helpful difference in people’s lives by creating a unique place where residents can flourish, and families can have peace of mind,” Avita’s mission statement declares on its website.
General entertainment amenities the Mariner offers include a theater, salon and barber shop, multiple restaurant-style dining options, welcoming pub, fitness center, and an inviting outdoor patio complete with a fire pit. Residents can also stimulate their minds and bodies with activities like cooking demonstrations led by the facility’s executive chef, barre balance classes to keep fit, and art sessions guided by Northbridge’s signature Artists in Residence program.
Mariner: Marblehead Senior Executive Director John Lamirande expressed his excitement for the highly anticipated launch in a press release.
“I am honored to be part of Marblehead’s first senior-living community,” he said. “My passion for senior living is mirrored by the entire team at Mariner, and we are eager to provide exemplary service to seniors and their families in the area.”
