The process of selecting a new high school principal and a new assistant superintendent are both officially underway, Superintendent of Schools John Buckey told the School Committee last week.
Buckey said the district received eight applications for the principal position, and 26 applications for the assistant superintendent post. The openings cropped up with both High School Principal Dan Bauer and Assistant Superintendent Nan Murphy receiving superintendent positions in other districts. Bauer and Murphy are headed to Danvers and Dedham, respectively, at the close of the school year.
Semifinalists for the high school principal position are set to be decided this week, while the committee assembled to select a new assistant superintendent held its first meeting and is conducting paper screenings. Semifinalists for that position will be selected March 15.
Finalists will be chosen March 20, and on March 27, they will visit the district for community forums, leadership interviews, faculty meetings, and a student panel.
Buckey will make his final decision during the first week of April, and on April 10, the new Marblehead High School principal will be announced.
Buckey hopes to name a new assistant superintendent the following week, on April 17.
