Last year, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) network, the receiver counted 19 white shark directions. Seventeen are from Lindsey Loo, a female white shark measuring 9.5 feet.
The other two directions were from Major Bro Dude, a male white shark coming in at 12 feet, and Popcorn, a female white shark measuring 11 feet.
At the time of the MH1 Marblehead Buoy installation in 2016, it was the first receiver buoy in the North Shore to be a part of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy network.
AWSC offers a tracking app called Sharktivity. Data is collected from many sources, including its buoy array, spotter plane, and app-user reports of in-person sightings of great white sharks in the area, the MH1 receiver’s website states.
Friends of Marblehead Public Schools helped fund the $3,000 buoy, and Rich Jordan, the founder of Jordan’s Marine, helped place it.
