Hundreds gathered at Riverside Beach on Friday evening as they watched the blaze from the burning pile of Christmas trees light up the night sky at the town’s annual Christmas tree burning.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 6, the burning was postponed due to the winter storm that came in over the weekend. Despite the delay, many still showed up to the yearly tradition to officially wave farewell to the holiday season.
The tradition has ran for decades in town. Prior to Chief Jason Gilliland’s tenure, the bonfires were stopped for an eight-year period before Gilliland reinstated it in 2015.
