During Saturday’s NEC Winter Open at New Balance track in Boston, both the boys and girls Marblehead teams had their moments beneath the spotlight.
On the boys’ side, Isaac Gross (2-mile, 9:46) and Thomas Carlson (dash, 6.70) impressed.
“Once again, Isaac Gross was a man on a mission,” said coach Nolan Raimo. “He had his sights set on running a strong time at this meet to secure a good seed at the more competitive meets later in the season, and his blazing 9:46 did just that.”
On Carlson:
“Thomas Carlson sprinted to a second-place finish with a new personal record of 6.70, which places him third on the Marblehead High School all-time list,” Raimo said.
As for the girls, Ava Machado (dash, 7.46) did her thing, while the 4×200 team also finished first.
“Ava Machado won the Invitational with a new school record in the 55m with a 7.46, which was 14th at the All-State Championship last year,” Raimo said.
