May 17, 2023 by Ryan Vermette

Marblehead resident and St. John’s Prep graduate Gus Baylow’s talents on the mic were recognized last week as he was given University of Kansas’ Sportscaster of the Year Honors.

Baylow, Class of 2024, was honored by KJHK 90.7 college sports radio for his time spent broadcasting Kansas Jayhawk’s basketball ,baseball, and football games. Baylow was honored with the award at the radio station’s end of year staff meeting on May 1.

He expressed his gratitude to KJHK’s staff and thanked them for the recognition in a Twitter post.

“Excited to announce that I was voted by the @KJHKsports Staff as the 2023 Broadcaster of the Year at our end of season meeting last night,” Baylow said in the post. “Calling #KUfball, #KUbball, and #KUWBB games this year has been extraordinary, and I want to thank the entire staff for this amazing honor.”

He continued the post by thanking KJHK Sports Director Landyn Welch and said “It’s been a great year at @kjhk, and I already can’t wait for next year.”

Baylow called his final Kansas men’s baseball game of the season on May 7 after calling 41 games.

He previously interned as a play-by-play announcer with the Green Bay Rockers Baseball club in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2022, and was featured on ESPN+ for two of the team’s final home games of the season.

“I want to thank all the players, coaches, and fans for showing me lots of support this season,” Baylow said in a Twitter post reflecting on this past season covering Kansas baseball. “It has been an awesome experience and one that I am extremely grateful for.”
