5 Glover Houses & 40 Glovers
To continue raising awareness about the effort to save Gen. John Glover’s farm house in Vinnin Square, one of the members of the informal team, social and architectural historian Judy Anderson, will talk about and show John Glover’s sophisticated home in town (c. 1760s), as well as the homes of his three brothers who came to Marblehead from Salem with their widowed mother when they were young boys. Honoring Women’s History Month this month, the illustrated talk will include the four Glover brothers’ six wives and 30 children (total), as well as their mother, Tabitha. Judy Anderson is an architectural, cultural and social historian who is available for private walking tours in Marblehead. Location: Abbot Public Library or Zoom.

The third and penultimate lecture in the Underwater in Salem Sound lecture series will be presented on Wednesday, March 20 from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 3 Brook Road, the temporary location of Abbot Public Library. All lectures are free and open to the public. As storms batter our coast causing more damage, we begin to see what the future may hold if we do not act. Barbara Warren, SSCW’s executive director, will provide updates on how the Commonwealth and the Salem Sound municipalities are grappling with these problems, including the new initiative, ResilientCoasts. She will also share the progress of several local resilience building projects and some of the challenges they will need to overcome.
