VFW Post 2005 is hosting its second annual benefit for the Todd Norman Scholarship Fund June 14. After Norman died suddenly last April, the Scholarship Fund was created to help raise money for deserving students’ education.
“His death last year was completely shocking to so many, and we felt, as a VFW, that we needed to step in and help raise money for the fund,” VFW Commander Ronny Knight said. “We all love Todd. He’s sorely missed.”
This event will be hosted at the VFW Post at 321 West Shore Drive on June 14 from 1-5 p.m. in the parking lot. As the day turns into night, the party in Norman’s honor will continue in the VFW’s Bunker Bar downstairs.
There will be live music throughout the whole event, and the lineup is as follows: Gus Percy from 1-3 p.m., DJ Mark Ferrante from 3-5 p.m. and Ricky Broughton and Brian Ware from 5-8 p.m. Last call will be at 11 p.m. There will also be face painting, food and an ice cream truck, raffle items and Norman’s pickup truck will be next to the stage to collect cash donations. There will also be merchandise available for purchase.
This family friendly event is open to the public and is free to attend.
Last year, the event raised $6,000 for the Todd Norman Scholarship Fund, and organizer Claudette Mason hopes this year will be even bigger and better, raising even more for the Scholarship Fund. Organizers hope to raise $10,000 this year.
“I love Todd,” Mason said. “Everybody who’s involved in this is not involved for us, but for them. That family is a great family. It’s not about us. It’s about what we can do to keep his legacy alive.”
Knight added that, “as commander of the Post, we’re honored to be doing this again this year.”
