Bernadette McDermott grew up in an Irish family in New Jersey, and she’s hoping to bring the extravagant celebrations she had as a kid up to Marblehead.
“This is a really family-friendly event. St. Paddy’s Day, I feel like, can sometimes be more bar and drink oriented,” McDermott said. “We’re more for family and kids.”
There will be Irish dancers from the McGonagle School of Irish Dance, live music from Brendan Ahern and Friends and local bagpiper Isaac Chute. In addition to the live entertainment, there will also be a craft table for the kids.
The kitchen and bar will be open for cash-only sales. The kitchen will be hosted by KC Catering, which will serve corned beef and cabbage dinners, plus some additional items.
The event will run from 1-5 p.m. March 16 at 321 West Shore Drive, VFW Post 2005. All proceeds will go to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, but the event itself is free as there is no cover charge.
