Celebrated songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and activist Vienna Teng with special guest Amber Rubarth will close the 54th season of Me&Thee Music on Friday, May 17. Vienna is a stellar writer and performer who has brought live interactive performance to a new level with her stunning piano, live audio looping and harmonizing, challenging lyrics, and an energizing style that directly involves her audience.
Teng’s indie chamber folk has been streamed on Spotify more than 20 million times and she’s been featured on NPR and The Late Show with David Lettermen as well as Amazon’s music charts, as she built a devoted following across generations and continents. Teng is a classically trained pianist and a former software engineer at Cisco Systems who returned to academia to study environmental sustainability. Her most recent album, “Aims,” became the first album ever to win four Independent Music Awards.
Opening the night will be Amber Rubarth, who can currently be seen on Apple TV alongside Joe Purdy in the feature film “American Folk.” Amber, who left home at 17 to become a chainsaw sculptor, has since opened for Emmylou Harris, Richie Havens, Kenny Loggins, and many others. She was awarded the Grand Prize on NPR’s Mountain Stage New Song Contest.
Fee-free general admission tickets and student tickets are only available at meandthee.org. Locally, tickets for all concerts are on sale at Arnould Gallery, Washington Street. No phone orders are accepted and no other ticket websites are authorized.
Doors open at 7:15 p.m., and the music begins shortly after 8 p.m. Me&Thee is an all-volunteer, nonprofit arts organization at the UU Church, 28 Mugford St., now in its 54th season. Freshly baked desserts, mulled cider, coffee, and tea are available before the show and during intermission.
