Despite the town declaring a snow emergency, the school district closing, and thousands of residents preparing for a potential foot of snowfall, Tuesday’s “snowstorm” did not live up to the hype, and largely left the area without even a coating.
It was a wintery mix for most of the day and despite the town and Police Department preparing to close the causeway around 1 p.m. due to high tide rolling in, that closing never came, to the delight of residents living on the Neck.
Trash and recycling pickup was delayed until Wednesday and buildings such as the JCC North Shore and Council on Aging were closed for the day. The snow emergency began at 12 a.m. on Tuesday and ended at 7 a.m. that morning.
Even a skeleton wearing a winter hat in a sled on the lawn of a Washington Street home was anticipating the huge snowstorm, but it never came.
As it is, everything resumed and went back to normal the very next day. It didn’t seem like it from the start, but maybe Punxsutawney Phil was more right than we gave him credit for, or the storm just moved more south than we expected. I’ll leave that one up to the people.
