The Marblehead boys cross country team (2-3) defeated Salem, 19-42, on its home course Tuesday. The Magicians were led by a first-place finish from captain Will Cruikshank. He was followed by Zach Pike (3rd), Filip Grubor (4th), Isaac Durand (5th), Colin Hart (6th), and Thomas Svencer (7th).

The Magicians earned a key road win at Manning Field to stay unbeaten at 6-0-2. Lucy McDonald opened the scoring in the 27th minute after intercepting a pass and finishing low into the corner. Three minutes later, Lucy Church buried a cross from Liv Carlson to make it 2-0.
“The bigger the game, the better Lucy plays,” said Marblehead coach Lisa Wales. “Her compete level is top-notch. She reads the game incredibly well and she controls much of the midfield for us.”
Wales also credited Callie Gilmore, calling her “instrumental.”

Marblehead received its goal from Chloe Rowland during the first quarter, while Elizabeth Hayes and Molly Beauchesne combined to make 21 saves.
“Sometimes, the scoreboard doesn’t tell the full story and today’s game was one of those games,” said Marblehead coach Ali Carey. “Our team played some of the best field hockey of our season so far, and every member of our team was in it until the last second. Our mental-skills game was strong and spirits were high. Building a strong, supportive team culture is a priority for our program. I’m incredibly proud of our team’s sportsmanship, respect for the game, and dedication to each other.”

Marblehead improved to 6-2 after sweeping Northeastern Conference foe Danvers. The Magicians won in straight sets of 25-14, 25-5, and 25-10. Faris led the team with five aces and 14 digs, while Moniz had what Miller called “a terrific night,” finishing with 19 kills on 40 swings. Sachs (5) and Mari Modryznksa (6) combined for 11 kills, while Burke added 26 assists.

This one was never in doubt. The St. John’s Prep Eagles (4-0) remained perfect, invading Cimini Field with a 53-20 win against La Salle Academy Saturday afternoon. The Prep’s ground game was lethal, with Jordan Toribio and Maxwell Parent securing big offensive days. Through the air, quarterback Chris Vargas tossed a pair of touchdowns to go with nearly 200 yards, with Riley Selvais being his favorite receiver.
