MARBLEHEAD — The Marblehead High football team will soon be buckling up its chin straps and pulling over the red and black jerseys once again. With the release of the 2025 schedule, several high-profile matchups highlight the slate.
Marblehead has struggled during the early portion of the season in each of the past two years, but found its rhythm down the stretch and secured playoff berths both times.
This fall, however, the Magicians will need to hit the ground running with a challenging start and finish to their schedule.
The season kicks off on the road on Thursday, Sept. 5, against Lynn English for a 7 p.m. showdown. The Bulldogs are led by second-year head coach Tyllor McDonald and look to open with a statement win, while longtime Magicians’ coach Jim Rudloff hopes to guide his team to a 1-0 start.
In Week 2, Marblehead is at home to face Bishop Fenwick, which is coming off a strong 7-3 campaign in 2024. The Crusaders defeated the Magicians, 25-6, last year, and Marblehead’s returning players will be eyeing early-season revenge.
The Magicians are back on the road to take on Shepherd Hill, then return to Piper Field to host North Andover. A bye week follows before a tough three-game road stretch against Northeastern Conference foes Beverly, Peabody, and Masconomet.
Marblehead returns home to face Danvers on Halloween, setting the stage for what could be a spirited and festive atmosphere in town.
The regular season wraps up with the traditional Thanksgiving Day rivalry game against Swampscott, which is back in its classic Thursday morning slot. This year’s matchup will be played at Piper Field beginning at 10 a.m., with no neutral site (such as last year’s Fenway Park) in the mix.
