The exodus of staff and administrators from Marblehead Public Schools continues, as Village School Principal Amanda Murphy has been selected for the same position at Great Oak Elementary School in Danvers, pending contract negotiations.
The announcement came in an email sent to Village School families.
“While excited for this opportunity, I value and truly care about the Village School students, staff, and families,” Murphy said. “The kind and supportive messages I’ve received over the past few days have been humbling and truly appreciated.”
Last week, Murphy announced that she was a finalist for the position, which will start in July.
“I have been blessed to be a part of the Marblehead and Village School community for the past 20 years,” she continued. “This new role does not start until July so we’ve still got a lot of time to continue our great work together!”
Murphy will be joining Danvers Superintendent Dan Bauer, who previously served as Marblehead High School principal before departing for the position last July. Murphy’s departure will add to the high turnover experienced by the district in recent months, including Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Michelle Cresta, whose last day in the district was March 21; former Assistant Superintendent Nan Murphy, who is now superintendent of Dedham Public Schools; and Director of Student Services Paula Donnelly and Associate Director Emily Dean, who resigned from their positions in January.
Interim Superintendent Theresa McGuinness also announced in January that she would not be pursuing the permanent superintendent position at the end of the school year.
