The Marblehead Arts Association (MAA) is hosting a 6-week Realistic Painting in Watercolor workshop this summer, taught by award-winning artist Todd Zalewski.
The classes will be held from July 17 to August 21, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., and registration is available on the MAA website.
Zalewski is a freelance artist with more than two decades of specialized experience in realistic, narrative illustration. He has been recognized nationally for his bird and wildlife art, as well as invited to exhibit his work at the Society of Illustrators in New York City.
Zalewski’s work has also been featured in several magazines including Ranger Rick, Cricket, Spider, and Ladybug, and he is currently working on children’s books. His portfolio can be found here.
His 6-week class will teach various techniques of watercolor painting, different materials used, the importance of sketching prior to painting, and how to set up a studio.
He will demonstrate the following techniques: dry-brush, wet on wet, gouache on toned paper, and the use of masking tape as paint restrictor.
