With just 43 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s (Sept. 11) field hockey game between Marblehead and host Saugus, the Magicians struck for a 1-0 win, thanks to Sadie Beane after a feed from Keliane Salem.
“I am so proud of our offense for staying grounded and keeping their focus in this game,” said Marblehead coach Ali Carey. “Sadie’s goal really underscores the effort the team brought to the turf today. Every player on that field worked hard until the last second. The game ended with our defense shutting down an opportunity to score on a penalty corner. We played hard, we played for each other, and the work the players are putting in at practice is showing on the field.”
Carey added the defense “played a great game,” while goalie Elizabeth Hayes did her thing with 10 saves.
“Noa Brochstein had a very important defensive block in the goal, preventing a scoring opportunity from Saugus that just slipped past our goalie,” Carey said.
